1998 ADC's
I answered a calling from my heart back in 1998. For several years, I was recalling lost memories from childhood. My grandparents were still alive and in their mid 80’s. They had recently moved from the farm they had lived on for the last 25 years - to the city. I came for a visit and didn’t have the heart to leave them. I spent several months as the caregiver and provider.
After several months, I talked to my Grandmother about my memories concerning my 1988 near death experience. I told her about the paramedic I encountered while I was a ghost outside my body, trying to get back in. My grandparents laughed themselves silly as I described how the paramedic raced around like a cartoon character.
"He done went and heard himself a "ghost" Grandma. You should have seen the look on his face."
My Grandmother was laughing so hard she had to take out her handkerchief and wipe the tears from her eyes. After I did the comical routine my Grandmother asked,
"You really think you was a ghost Grandson?"
"Oh Granny. I don’t think I was a ghost. I KNOW I was a ghost. I slipped out the body for awhile and got myself a look see at the other side. I am telling you -- the grass is greener there. I can’t wait for my time to go. Until then, I will put up with what life has to offer me."
I had my laugh with her on Saturday. Sunday, she insisted on making me a Carrot Cake. Monday she wanted to go to the hospital. Tuesday, she checked out of the hospital and her body. The whole family took it hard. I took it hard for a short while until I recalled the promises we had made when I was a child.
My Grandfather was too ill to attend the funeral so I volunteered to look after him. Family members were coming from out of State and planned to visit my Grandfather prior to and after the funeral. I was very thankful that I could recall the 1988 NDE and my ghostly adventure. I knew my Grandmothers spirit was out there jumping for joy on the other side.
I had been sitting up the house for company. Nature gave its call and I headed for the front bathroom. Just as I was about to sit down, I heard the phone ring. I thought it must be a relative lost and looking for directions to the new house. I answered the phone and didn’t hear a voice on the line --- but I heard a voice loud and clear in my heart.
"Don’t you go stinking up my bathroom. I haven’t been gone long enough from the world for the guests NOT to think of that bathroom as mine. I KNOW how you stink the room up when you use it. Go back there and use your Grandpa’s bathroom while guests are in town. Stink up his bathroom, NOT MINE!! Company is on its way."
I fell over on my behind laughing myself silly. Grandma was still worried about her bathroom. Just as I picked myself up and put the receiver back on the hook -- the door bell rang. It was a relative I hadn’t seen in years. I was standing at the door still chuckling. My relative asked what was so funny.
"You know how the mind works in such an event. I am sitting here thinking of something funny Grandma said to me. You know what I mean?"
I wasn’t about to tell him that I just got a phone call from Grandma. Just a private joke between me and her departed spirit.
