Teenager III

"Excuse me," she said.

"Oh. I was just .... mumbling out loud. My goodness. You look like you've been through a rough time. Sorry. Didn't mean to pry. It is just -- that -- you look nothing on the outside like you do on the inside."

"I am taking that as a compliment."

"Yes. Ma'am. You look happy. That does you good. You have a wonderful smile."

"Yes. The Good Lord has given me something to smile about again. I never thought I would see the day for that again. Thank you for noticing my smile."

"Ma'am I am curious. If you was standing in my shoes - you would know why I'm as curious as I am. But I have to ask you a question for my own mind."

"Okay."

"That smile come to you like that - through a letter?"

"Do I know you Son? Do you know me? Do you know someone from my Church?"

"No Ma'am. I'm pretty sure this is the first time I have laid eyes on you. I am sorry if I am out of line asking that."

"How do you know about then?"

"Well. Easiest way to put that is ...... I have a bird on my shoulder that whispers secrets into my ear from time to time. That make sense to you? I don't belong to a Church from this world. In the world to come - we all belong to the same Church. That make more sense."

"Yes is does. What can you tell me about that letter?"

"I know the hand that wrote it to you - wrote it with a great depth of love in their heart for you."

"Did you know my Son?"

"Not when he was walking in this world. He is walking in God's world now. I know of him through the spirit of that."

"Do you have something to add to the letter."

"He wants you to know - to stop worrying about him. God is looking after him now. You know that now right?"

"Yes."

"He also wants you to know - he had a wonderful life because of you. He took the fondness of those memories with him and will walk with them in his heart on the other side - as you walk on this side with the fondness of memories you carry in your heart. He carry those memories with him - until you two meet up again on the other side."

"Thank you."

"Oh no Ma'am. Don't thank me. Give credit where credit is due. You was prayer for your answers and those answers come from the one you gave your prayers to. I am just one of Santa's helpers today."

I went on to tell her that the "invisible bird" on my shoulder was getting to be a heavy burden because I had two of them. One more than I could handle. She asked if I had lost someone as well. I told her about my best friend and how the two of them sort of hooked up on the other side and that is how I got called into service. I told her to keep her mind and ears open to the messages her son would be sending her within.

In the end - she was trying to do something for me as a token of appreciation. I told her I didn't feel it was appropriate. If it had been left to my own mind - I would have never sent the letter. She told me she had picked up a steak but felt it was too heavy for her to digest. She put the prime piece of meat into my basket and then handed me the cash to pay for it.

"Please allow a Mother to show her gratitude. I am taken your advise and something is whispering into my ear - that you are owed a steak for all this."

I grinned. His spirit had promised me a choice piece of steak if I went to the supermarket.

"I don't think I have the heart or the stomach to turn that offer down Ma'am."

She instructed me to go and get a big bake potatoes with all the trimmings. Sour cream, butter and chives. I did because I felt it was like Christmas for the both of us. As I was walking away to continue my shopping I turned and asked her,

"Ma'am - there is something you can do for me in exchange for my hand in this."

"Any thing you ask."

"Promise me - you going to take care of yourself and get rid of those black and blue bags under your eyes. They take away from that beautiful smile of yours. You got tons of light yet to share in this world."

"I can promise you I will do my best."

"I could ask for nothing less. Thank you."
