Friends: Wind of Spirit
In 1981, I had a small group of friends whom I would sit around the house in the evening with. One day the door flew open and an invisible wind blew through. This was the beginning of an adventure that lead my three friends to have their own direct spiritual experience with spirits of the departed.
Letting the cold air in
It
happened one day while I was busy and had my head down looking under the couch
for something. My three friends were sitting in the living room chatting away as
I stumbled underneath the couch. One of my friends had came though the front
door and I had asked him to lock it behind him. (I was always locking the
door thinking it would keep the 'spirits' from flying though.) It was
habit. I heard the door fly open and the gush of wind that was making the
ceiling tile flutter. I knew they (the spirits) wouldn't shut the door
until I hollered at them to acknowledge their presence. I did it without even
thinking about the three friends sitting around the living room.
"Shut the dang door behind you. Your letting the cold air in. Mind your
manners. I got company! Your embarrassing me."
I shook my head and heard the 'wind' reverse it's direction and fly backwards to
slam the door. I still had my head down and shouted out my habitual shout.
"Stay away from the dang window -- and CLOSE that back door on your way out.
Mind your manners!" I was shaking my head when I got up and sat back down on the
couch. I looked at my friends and all three had their jaws hanging on the floor
with their eyes wide open." We sat there in silence looking at one another for a
long silent moment and then one said,
"What the HECK was that?"
I didn't want to address it and knew there was no easy explanation. I just said,
"Nevermind..... it was the... ummm .... the wind. The wind does that from
time to time in this house. I haven't figured it out. It happens all the time
and I just got used to talking to it when it does. It was just the wind."
They didn't buy into that. They could tell I was nervous and trying to hide
something from them.
"I HAVE been in this world a long time. Not as long as some, but long enough
to know - the wind don't stop and go backwards and in response to a human
request. Hell NO! That was no wind that just blew though here. You know what it
was -- so start talking. I ain't never been so freaked out by something as I
just was by what I just saw and heard going on before my very eyes and hearing
with my own ears. That is impossible."
One of my friends was up and checking out the door.
"Come here guys. Check this out. I thought I locked this door. Look at it.
It is still locked. How does a wind blow open a locked door and then slam it
shut. No sir. That was no wind. What was it?"
They wouldn't let up. I kept trying to play it off and change the subject. That
just intensified their curiosity even more. I finally told them.
"If I tell you what I know of it - your not going to believe me. So just
believe what your own eyes and ears heard. As far as figuring it out - you ain't
going to do it."
They argued with me and finally told me,
"We thought you were our friend. Friends don't keep secrets from one another
especially something as drastic as this."
I felt they were right. If they were my friends then they would accept it for
what it is.
"It is ghost. I got three of them hanging around here from time to time.
They are not just any old ghosts. You know I told you guys about my girlfriend.
She is one of them. They are keeping me company and playing tricks from time to
time to let me know they are around. This sort of thing usually means they are
about to talk to me about something important. Usually they come to me while I
am sleeping at night. It is not so hard on my mind that way. This is a way of
them telling me to get ready for something more direct than in dreams during
sleep. It is just a game we play with one another. I wasn't expecting them to
make themselves KNOWN while I HAVE COMPANY in the HOUSE!"
I was shouting out like I was trying to make sure someone heard me.
"Don't let it freak you out but - a couple of them are probably listening in
on our conversations. They have made comments a couple of times about things we
have said together. Don't worry. Their dead so they can't go blabbing about it
around town."
My friends freaked out. One was totally into it while one was totally against
the idea of it. The other was sort of in between.
They were all 17 years old. They started arguing with themselves about the
reality of it. One started looking for a logical explanation for what he had
heard and seen. He started speculating that I had 'levers' and pulleys set up
and that while I was looking under the couch - I had tripped some sort of trip
wire. I challenged him to find it. He moved the couch and was looking through
the ceiling for wires and pulleys.
Afterwards he said,
"Oh your good. Very good. You got that gadget so it is impossible to find."
I asked them,
"Well --for the record - let me ask you guys what you would have done if I
hadn't been sitting her talking to it like it was the thing to do. What if I had
been in the kitchen or bathroom or stepped out to the store leaving you alone to
experience it as it happened. What would you have done."
One of them told me,
"Well - when you did get back in the living room - you would have found a
hole right here in this wall."
I asked why.
He told me,
"Cause I would have been the first one to leave and I would have figured the
other two fools here would have been heading in the opposite direction of where
that wind was blowing. That means they both would have been heading for that
front door. Now my mind would have been action on fear and that produces
adrenaline - which has been known to speed up your thought process. So I would
have been looking at two things. One - would be the two fools fighting each
other to get out of the front door first and two - what if there was more
waiting outside the front door -- so that would have lead me to my third thought
which would be to make a door of my own. I am telling you I would have found the
power in me to beat a hole in that wall and beat it out fast. I haven't been so
scared in all my life. That was TOO unreal for me and my mind. I was freaking
out."
